Parent Involvement Policy

I. Policy Involvement

The Parent Involvement Policy is jointly developed with, agreed upon with, and distributed to, all of the parents of participating children. We will provide full opportunities for the participation of parents with limited English proficiency and parents with disabilities. Furthermore, we will coordinate and integrate parental involvement programs and activities at the school level with other federal, state, and district programs. The Parent Involvement Policy will be presented for discussion and approval with parents and community during Meet the Teacher Night. All parents are encouraged to provide input for the Title I school wide project. Bolivar Elementary will provide an annual meeting to inform parents of the school’s participation with Title I, the requirements of Title I, and the right of parents to be involved in the school.

II. Shared Responsibility: School-Parent Compact

The School-Parent Compact is designed by a committee of parents and school staff and outlines how parents, school staff, and students share the responsibility for improving learning. The Parent Involvement Committee will review the compact annually.

III. Building Capacity for Involvement

In an effort to ensure effective involvement of parents and to support a partnership among the stakeholders for student achievement, we will provide:

  • Continuous and timely communication to assist parents in understanding Tennessee’s academic and achievement standards by disseminating grade level objectives and conducting parent-teacher conferences, parent workshops, surveys, Meet the Teacher Night, Family Fun Science Night, grade level Reading and Math Nights, P.I.E. meetings, and Preparing Parents for TCAP Night. Each student will also receive a handbook and a planner. All invitations will be sent in a timely manner with an additional follow-up reminder. Every effort will be made to communicate with parents in a format and language that is free of educational jargon and easily understandable by all. Parents and community members are always welcome at Bolivar Elementary School.
  • Communication about a child’s progress through signed papers, progress reports, report cards, IEP meetings, telephone calls, and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Training to teachers and other staff members in reaching out to, communicating with, and working with parents through P.I.E., conferences, workshops, and staff development.
  • Opportunities for parents to communicate with the school through open door policy, meetings with administrators and/or teachers, and parenting workshops. If requested, administrators and/or teachers will give parents opportunities for regular meetings to formulate suggestions and to participate in decisions relating to the education of their children through P.I.E. meetings, surveys, etc.
