little extra help with the TCAP Writing Assessment.

to BES third graders about the importance of agriculture in their daily lives. They used pizza as an example and talked to
the students about farm products in each ingredient.

Strong Man Visits BES
Bud Jeffries performs feats of strength as he sends a powerful message to BES students. Bullying is not cool. It is never okay. You have a talent and a purpose. If you practice, you can do anything. Be strong enough to be cool.

Dr. Hopper presented teachers who had perfect attendance the first semester with $50 gift cards!

Beta Toys for Tots Drive
This year the BES Beta Club joined forces with the Bolivar
Fire Department to collect toys for the Toys for Tots Drive. Santa Claus personally came by to endorse the
program. Students were asked to bring
new toys, candy, gum, etc. Beta students
collected them each day.
Loaves and Fishes
BES students supported the local Loaves and Fishes food
pantry by collecting canned food items.
They usually run short on food around the holiday season. Students brought food items to their
homeroom to be collected and donated.

Veterans Day Tribute to Mr. Chip
The significance of Veterans Day took on a new meaning to Bolivar Elementary fifth graders. They discovered they had a veteran on staff – Mr. Charles (Chip) Brown. They decided to pay tribute to him while maintaining an academic focus by writing letters of appreciation to him. A large construction paper flag was assembled on one of the hallway walls. The letters were displayed on the flag. Mr. Chip saw the letters while he was cleaning. Students came in Friday morning and found a surprise of their own. Mr. Chip had signed each letter. Everyone at Bolivar Elementary is very proud of Mr. Chip and all of our veterans in Hardeman County.

Out of the Mist a Dragon
Bolivar Elementary 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students were recently treated to a cultural experience beyond expectation! Wood and Strings Theater presented “Out of the Mist a Dragon”, using elegant reproductions of the classic Bunraku puppets of Japan. A drama unfolded that reached into the world of myth and legend to portray a young man’s journey of self-discovery. His encounters with traditional folk puppets from North America, England, and Indonesia gave exotic glimpses of puppetry styles rarely seen in this country.

Ollie the Otter Visits BES
Students and faculty of Tennessee Technology Center of
Whiteville bought Ollie Otter to Bolivar Elementary School
to visit with
students in PreK, K, 1st, and 2nd grades. Ollie, an advocate of seatbelt safety, taught
students about the 4’ 9” rule. Students
who are 4’ 9” or less must sit in a booster seat when riding in a vehicle. Taller students should wear a seatbelt. All students under 13 should ride in the back
seat.
Boys and girls, Ollie loves to get letters and pictures. Send them to:

So that all shall know,
this flag was flown in the face of the enemy,
illuminated in the darkest night by the light of justice.
It proudly bore steadfast witness to the dawning of a new era of
freedom for those who have never know it, bravely led by those who would give their life for it.
It was flown at
Contingency Operations Base Q-West, Iraq
on the 1st Day of May 2010
by SFC James H. Anthony and SFC Will Ross,
