Spelling Bee – Each December, GJES has their schoolwide spelling bee to determine who will represent the school at the county wide spelling bee in January.
Christmas Program – Students from each grade perform songs for the enjoyment of the parents and community members before they begin their winter break.
Read Across America Celebration – GJES celebrates the birthday of Dr. Suess every March. Each year, people from the community as well as some of the parents come in to the school, put on special hats, and read a Dr. Suess book to each classroom.
Black History Program – GJES recognizes the accomplishments of African-Americans in history through an annual Black History Program.
Donuts for Dads and Muffins for Moms – Since parents play such an important role in their children’s lives, GJES wanted to pay a special tribute to them.
