Instructional
Program
Classes in grades K through 3 are self-contained. Classes 4
and 5
are semi-departmentalized with teacher changing classrooms.
Grades
6 through 8 are departmentalized with students changing classrooms.
Students in grades K through 3 have library 30 minutes twice
a
week. Students grades 4 through 8 have library for an hour
once a
week. Grades K through 8 have guidance and music once
or
twice a week. |
Programs
and Extracurricular Activities
- Accelerated
Reader
is a computerized reading comprehension program using selected library
books. the media specialist and classroom teacher work
closely to
assist students with participation in this program, and our students
are tracked by the use of this program. This reading computer
program has been very successful at our school.
- STAR
Reading is a c computerized assessment program for
identifying and tracking reading levels of students.
- Advanced
Learning Systems
is a mathematics computerized program with pre- and post-assessment
components for each grade level, which are administered at the
beginning and end of the school year. After the
pre-assessment,
teachers assign lessons that are prescribed either by the computer or
his/her choice. The students' progress is tracked and
weaknesses
are identified.
- 4-H
Clubs meet monthly in grades 4 through 8.
- D.A.R.E
(Drug Awareness Resistance Education) is provided for sixth graders
through the Hardeman County Sheriff's Department.
- Yearbook
staff meets on a weekly basis to design and annual yearbook of photos
and memories for the student body.
- Boys
and Girls Basketball games are played for November through
January twice a week and end with a tournament. Tryouts take
place in the fall.
- Girls
Softball is played in the spring twice a week and ends
with a tournament.
