The Whiteville Elementary School library is striving to help each student become proficiency in reading at grade level and achieving their Accelerated Reading (AR) goal each week, six weeks and yearly.  Each six weeks the students are offered an opportunity to visit the AR store.  There students may redeem AR points for prizes, games or coupons which are good for free admission to a dance, or free food at school functions.  The students are very excited about the AR store and look forward to spending the AR points they have earned during the six weeks.

What a wonderful school year we have had at Whiteville Elementary School library.  We have set new records with the Accelerated Reading.  "The AR program is designed to encourage students to read and earn AR points.  This year some of our students have reached higher levels and points with the AR program.  I am very proud of the reading levels these students have  obtained" said Ms. Weir, the school's librarian.

Whiteville Elementary Library will start the new school year with new books and new AR tests.  The students will have many opportunities to expand their worlds' with these books. If you want to expand your world, mark your calendar for March 2, 2009, it is "Read Across America" Day.  You may come to the school and read to any age, group or class of students.  Come out and enjoy the day. Send an hour or so with the students during "Read Across America".  By the way, March 2 is the birthday of Dr. Seuss, a man who knew what reading was all about.  We look forward to seeing you March 2, 2009.
