business people and other adults who came to read to the students.
It was to celebrate "Read Across America" program. This is
a special day when everyone who can read wants to share that ability
with others. It is to honor the one and only author of the Cat in the Hat!
"Dr. Seuss". Dr. Seuss' birthday is March 2nd and he always
wanted to help other enjoy the art of reading. To honor him each
March 2nd is set aside for "Read Across America". Librarian, Ms.
Weir stated, "We had a great time reading!" Thanks to all the
adults who came to the school to read to the WES students on this
special day.

The monthly Parent Teacher Involvement (PTI) Team meeting was held February 25, 2010. The second graders presented a night of entertainment with facts about Presidents' Day and Black History. February is a busy month starting with Valentine's Day, entire month is Black History Month, and ending with Presidents' Day. After the presentation by the second graders Mrs. Mamie Polk, Principal gave her monthly report.

What a great honor it is to be chosen as "Student of the Month" for the month of February. Homeroom teachers and staff member who do not have homerooms choose a student from his or her class to be their "Student of the Month". The student is chosen because of their behavior, academic, and/or good citizenship during the past month. All of the students are given free ice cream for being a "Student of the Month" this month.
One of the Black History programs featured Mr. Evelyn Robertson, Jr. Mr. Robertson spoke about experiences of the Allen-White High School in the Whiteville community. He has recently published the book Eduction and the American Dream: The Allen-White Hight School Story 1905-1970. He presented a copy to Mrs. Polk, principal, and Mrs. Weir, librarian, for the WES' library. The 21st Century Learning Center Choir under the leadership of Ms. Lurean Price also preformed at the Black History program.
The yearbook staff has been working hard on this year's book. The student body has chosen the students who are quietest, most popular, the most athletic, and all the other "most" of the year. The parents and grandparents of the eight graders had an opportunity to add to the yearbook by placing an "Ad" in the yearbook which highlight their child. Everyone is very excited about the 2009-2010 yearbook. Don't forget to place your order before it is too late. You would really hate to miss this yearbook.

There are many books, crafts, and other items to purchase. Librarian, Ms. Weir hopes for a great book fair this year to help purchase more books and Accelerated Reading (AR) tests for the students.
